Second Wind

Second Wind exists to lead, inspire, and minister to our “seasoned” members –  our seniors. They may be retired or approaching retirement, or those who are 60 years and older, or simply those who have an “old soul” (who enjoy being with and serving our seniors). Second Wind seeks to help answer the question: As a senior, how can I fulfill the role that God has for me in His Kingdom, and specifically in the Valley Vineyard?

We identify avenues of service with and to our seniors. These include visiting, calling, and writing to our shut-in seniors. We want them to know that they are not forgotten, that they are loved, and that they are being prayed for.

Second Wind holds three annual event gatherings. Most are in the Fellowship Hall after the Sunday service and include lunch. Events may be educational with guest speakers with expertise in areas of importance to seniors, such as advance medical directives or wills and trusts. Other event gatherings are purely for food, fun, and fellowship, such as our annual Laugh N’ Lunch event. We also go on field trips, like our recent viewing art at Forest Lawn. Whatever the purpose, our event gatherings always offer fellowship over a shared meal and the opportunity to enjoy the fellowship of other senior friends, both old and new. We welcome suggestions for informative topics and interesting field trips.

Opportunities to serve (open to all, not just seniors)

2W Core Team: this team plans and puts on the events, decides which topics and field trips to explore, and helps steer Second Wind in the path led by our Lord, Jesus. It meets monthly throughout the year and weekly in the month preceding an event. Core Team members are assigned tasks and expected to actively participate in discussions, contribute ideas, and help in a variety of ways.
VCR Team (visit, call, write): these members pair up to visit shut-ins in person, or call and write to shut-ins to acknowledge birthdays and holidays. We pair new members of this team with experienced team members as they get started.
Transportation Team: This is a need that remains unfulfilled at this time, but we are praying that willing, able-bodied drivers step forward to help fill this important need.
